What is a Row in Excel?
A row is a horizontal series of cells in a spreadsheet. A single worksheet contains a total of 1048576 rows. Rows are identified by numbers. Each row has its own identification number starting from 1 to 1048576.
What is a Column in Excel?
A Column is a vertical series of cells in a spreadsheet. A single worksheet contains a total of 16384 columns. Columns are identified by alphabet. Each column has its own identification alphabet starting from A to XFD.
What is a Cell in Excel?
A place where row lines and column lines meet and create a rectangular shape box is called a cell. Every cell has its own cell address. Cell address consists of a row number and a column number. We can see the cell address in the address bar.
Ex: If a cell is on the 1st row and column A, then the cell address is A1.
How to add and remove Rows & Columns in Excel:
Sometimes a user needs to add and delete rows to complete the tasks while working in Excel. Adding and deleting the rows is a very easy task if you know how to do it.
Things to remember before adding Rows & Columns:
- A new row will always add above the row which you’ve selected.
- A new Column will always add to the left side of the column that you’ve selected.
- If you want to add more rows or columns at a time, you need to select the same no of rows or columns.
- Once you’ve added the row, use the F4 key to repeat the task and add more rows.
How to Add a Row:
1: In an Excel worksheet, first you need to select a row where you want to add a new blank row above that. Hover the mouse on the row number and wait till the arrow appears and click on that number to select that row or simply click on any cell on the row and press Ctrl + Spacebar to select the row.
2: Now simply click the mouse right button to open the menu and click on Insert. An empty row will be added above the selected row.

How to Delete a Row:
1: In an Excel worksheet, first you need to select a row that you want to delete.
2: Now simply click the mouse right button to open the menu and click on Delete. The selected row will be deleted.

How to Delete a Column:
Select a column and simply click the mouse right button to open the menu and click on Delete. The selected column will be deleted.
