We can also create hyperlinks in Excel that will not only direct you to a specific webpage but you can also open a specific file or document. You can insert hyperlinks to go to another cell, worksheet or workbook and send an email to the specified email address with just one click.

What are Hyperlinks in Excel?
A hyperlink is a reference to a specific location, file or webpage that allows users to land there by clicking the link.
Hyperlinks are easily recognizable. The hyperlink text is underlined and highlighted with blue or purple color.
Microsoft Excel enables you to create hyperlinks to
- Open a webpage or a website on the internet
- Create a new Excel file
- Go to a specific cell within the worksheet
- Go to a specific sheet within the workbook
- Send an email to a specific address
Hyperlink to a website:
The most common hyperlink that everyone knows is the one that directs to a web page when you click the hyperlink text.
Now we are going to add hyperlinks to a website in Excel.
1. Open any Excel workbook and click on any cell.
Now I’m going to add the website link to the text Excellopedia.
2. Go to the insert tab in the ribbon and click on the “Link” command in the links group. Or simply right-click on the cell to open the options and select the “Link” option from the menu.
Shortcut – You can simply use the Excel keyboard shortcut Ctrl + K to insert the link.

3. Now Insert Hyperlink window will be opened if you use any of the above options.

4. Select the Existing File or Webpage option.
5. Now go to the address box at the bottom and add the website URL. Here I’m giving my website link https://excellopedia.com/.
The text in the cell now became hypertext and displayed in underlined blue color.

When you click on the text, you will be redirected to the Excellopedia home page.
Hyperlink To Create A New Excel File:
1: Simply select the cell and use Ctrl + K to open the Insert Hyperlink window.
2: Select Create New Document option.

3: Give a name to the document in the Name of new document box.
4: Click on the change option if you want to change the saving location of the new file.
5: Click ok.
The text in the cell now became hypertext and displayed in underlined blue color.

When you click on the text, you will be redirected to a New Excel file.
Hyperlink to Go to a Specific Cell Within the Worksheet:
1: Select Place in the Document on the Insert Hyperlink window.
2: Under the cell reference, select the same worksheet you’re currently working on.

3: Now add the cell reference no in type the cell reference column.
4: Click ok.

When you click on the hypertext, you will be redirected to the given cell reference within the worksheet.
Hyperlink to Go to a Specific Sheet Within the Workbook:
1: Select Place in the Document on the Insert Hyperlink window.
2: Under the cell reference, select the targeted worksheet within the same workbook. Here I’m selecting sheet 3.

3: If you want to link to the specific cell, then change the cell reference no in the Type The Cell Reference Column otherwise leave the default A1.
4: Click ok.

When you click on the hypertext, you will be redirected to sheet 3 within the workbook.
Hyperlink To Go To A Different Workbook:
1: Select the Existing File or Webpage on the Insert Hyperlink window.

2: Then select the File which is available on your computer and click on Bookmark.
3: Now Select Place In Document window will be opened. Under the cell reference, select the worksheet and add the cell reference no in type the cell reference column.

4: Click ok.
5: Once you clicked on ok, the Select Place In Document window will be closed and you’ll be back to the Insert Hyperlink window. Now click ok.
The text in the cell now became hypertext and displayed in underlined blue color.
Once you clicked on the hypertext, you will be redirected to the selected existing workbook.
Hyperlink To Send an Email to a Specific Address:
1: Simply select the cell and use Ctrl + K to open the Insert Hyperlink window.
2: Select the E-mail address on the Insert Hyperlink window.

2: Then add an email address and subject in the email address and subject fields.
3: Click ok.
The text in the cell now became hypertext and when you click on the hypertext, you can send mail to that email address.
Edit Hyperlinks in Excel:
Editing Hyperlinks in Excel is a very easy process. You can simply edit the links using the mouse right button.
First, you need to select the cell to right-click on the cell but it’s a little tricky. When you click on the cell it may redirect you to its link destination.
Just to avoid that, don’t click on the hypertext. This means just move the mouse pointer to some white place in the cell. When the pointer turns from hand to cross just hold it and right-click on the mouse to open the menu and click on the Edit Hyperlink option.

Now Edit Hyperlink window will be opened. simply make the changes and click on ok.
Or you can simply go to the insert tab on the ribbon and click on the Links option. Now Edit Hyperlink window will be opened. you can simply make the changes and click on ok.
Remove Hyperlinks in Excel:
In the same way, you can also remove the Hyperlinks in Excel easily. Simply select the cell and right-click on the mouse to open the menu and click on the Remove Hyperlink option. That’s it, the hyperlink on the text will be removed.

To remove the cells from multiple cells, just select all cells containing hyperlinks and right-click on the mouse to open the menu and click on the Remove Hyperlinks option.

You can also remove the hyperlinks from the entire worksheet with a single click.
1: Select the worksheet by clicking Ctrl + A on the keyboard.

2: Go to the Home tab on the ribbon and click on the Clear drop-down button under the Editing group.
3: Click on the Clear Hyperlinks option.
Now hyperlinks on the entire worksheet will be removed.
